Gift Card Granny was founded in 2009 in Fort Collins, Colorado by Luke Knowles. As of today, the company headquarters is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with Jason Wolfe listed as the current CEO. Gift Card Granny was part of a series of websites that Knowles had operated that were known as “The Frugals”. Along with Gift Card Granny, the other two websites that consisted of The Frugals were Coupon Sherpa and Free Shipping Day). At the outset, Gift Card Granny was a website that compared gift cards and how they stacked up in value. In the early years, Knowles was the one man band behind Gift Card Granny.
In 2013, Knowles sold the company to Wolfe, who in his own right owned a business related to gift cards. That business is known as GiftCards.com. In 2016, the latter was acquired by Blackhawk Holdings Network. Afterwards, Wolfe became the CEO of Gift Card Granny. As of today, the company has 39 employees.
What Is Gift Card Granny?
Gift Card Granny is a list aggregator for discounted gift cards. There are over 100,000 gift cards available on the site. And they are distributed across 1,000 brand name retailers. Among the list of stores include but are not limited to: Walmart, Starbucks, Home Depot, Target, Apple (not iTunes), and Google Play. Of course, we’re missing one: Amazon. Because upon further research, they’re currently out of stock at the time of this writing.
Gift Card Granny partners with other discount gift card companies and merchants. If a user is in search of a specific gift card, they can choose the brand they want in the directory. Next, they’ll come across a list of gift cards that are being sold by other people. Typically, people will sell their gift cards through a third-party that is partnered with Gift Card Granny (i.e.–CardKangaroo). These gift cards are usually sold at a discount price.
For example, if you go on the site and look for a Wal-Mart gift card, you see a gift card that has a value of $200. It’ll be sold at a slight discount such as 1%. Some others will vary in how much a buyer can save and may depend on which third-party seller they go through. So you click on the “View Deal” button and it will direct you to the third-party seller’s site. From there, you can add the gift card and purchase it at the discount price, like so.
Remember, gift cards can be sent by physical mail or email. Pay attention to this before you make a decision on which gift card to buy. If you ordered an electronic gift card, you should be able to receive it via email almost instantly, sometimes in minutes. Physical gift cards will take anywhere from 2 to 5 business days for delivery via USPS. Keep in mind that the delivery times may differ from seller to seller.

Can you sell your unwanted gift cards on Gift Card Granny? Of course you can. In fact, they have an easy step-by-step guide on how to do it. The first thing you do is find their “Sell A Gift Card” option. You can access this using the by clicking the “more” option on top of the page. Then it’ll open up a menu that will give you the option to sell a gift card.
Once you’re on the page, you will enter the store name of the gift card you’re trying to sell. Then you enter the amount and then click the big “get offers now” button. You’ll soon see offers from various sellers. Also, if you want to sell online, be sure to get a good idea of who the sellers are. Here’s the current list that Gift Card Granny is partnered up with.
Selling your gift card online is the much faster option. Believe it or not, Gift Card Granny also has an option where you can find a physical location on where you can sell your gift card. These include grocery stores, pawn shops, check cashing service centers, and more. The major con is depending on your location, you won’t be able to find a place. So you’re better off selling it online, anyways.
Now, let’s get to the offer part. You can sell it for a suggested amount or name your own price. Either way, you’re in control. Does it have to be an unused gift card? Not really. It can be barely used and can still be sold. Once you’ve successfully sold your card, you can receive your money via check, direct deposit, or PayPal once the merchant has accepted your gift card (physical or digital).
While buyers can buy gift cards in bulk, so can sellers. But they have to total to a certain amount.

- If you’re not satisfied with the price, you can always name your own .
- If you’re a buyer, you can buy one card at a discount price or in bulk. The choice is yours.
Cons:
- If you use the discount locator and successfully find a buyer, you’ll be able to sell your card. Despite getting cash in hand instantly, it will be far less than what you would sell online.
- Depending on how you want to get paid, it will typically take up to a week to receive your funds.
- If you intend to sell in bulk, you have to have a total value of $2,500 or more in gift cards.
Is Gift Card Granny Sweet or Scammy?
Right off the bat, Gift Card Granny is one of the more popular places to buy gift cards at a discount price. As for selling them, it is a surefire way to earn money. If you have unwanted or unused gift cards laying around, you can sell them. Therefore, it’s legit.
